Learning and Having Fun at the SAME TIME!!!

Inside our classroom we are always having fun and learning at the same time. By providing students with these opportunities, I am giving them a learning experience they will never forget. Students love when we use shaving cream to write words and play-doh to mold letters. Look below for a peek inside our classroom...

Hanna Park Field Trip

What a beautiful day for a trip to Hanna Park. In class we have been focusing on our Beach and Ocean Unit. This field trip was a perfect opportunity for the students to explore and have a hands on experience. Students had an amazing time searching for seashells and exploring the sand. We were even able to enjoy a picnic lunch right by the lake.

Our Class is GREEN!!

April 22, 2010
Our class had such an Earth friendly day. We read the stories Micheal Recycle, The Lorax, and Our Class is Green to learn about ways we can keep our Earth clean. We learned to always throw our trash in a trashcan, use canvas bags instead of plastic bags at the grocery store, turn off the lights and the electricity when we are not using it, and to close the doors so that the cold air does not get out. Below you can see pictures of the canvas bags we made together. Enjoy!

What an EGGTASTIC day

We had such a fun afternoon finding our eggs and grouping them. Thank you to one of our 'hoppity' helper parents for providing all of the Easter eggs!!! WOW!!

Jacksonville Zoo Here We Come...

About to go see the apes

Our second field trip was to the Jacksonville Zoo. It was a day filled with excited students, beautiful weather, and animals of course! There were stunning birds flying right over our heads, monkeys playing on tightropes, jaguars pacing back and forth, and lions resting in the shade. I was very excited to see the giraffes. What was your favorite animal that you were able to see?
Not only did we get to walk around the zoo, we were also able to hear a wonderful and educational presentation. We learned about how to keep the environment safe for animals by cutting can holders and tying plastic bags in a knot. We even got to pet a chinchilla, hen, and snake. Leave a comment about your favorite part of going to the zoo!

Roll out the red carpet for these shining kindergartners...Our first field trip to Ft. Caroline National Monument

We did it!! Congratulations my brave explorers. YOU made it through a one mile hike on the Hammock Nature Trail where you learned all about the rich resources that Florida has to offer. On the trail we learned that the Sabal Palm is Florida's state tree, the Timucuans stuffed their mattresses with Spanish Moss, Wax Myrtle was used to keep insects away, and so much more. We were also able to explore the Fort exhibit, listen to a wonderful presentation at the visitor center, and visit the Timucua Hut where the Timucuans found shelter. Thank you to the amazing chaperones who hiked the trail with us and to all parents/guardians for helping our class to be extra prepared for the field trip. I am so proud of you brave kindergartners for asking so many questions and being so curious. YOU deserve a standing ovation.
